Sugarcane (Bagasse)

Bagasse is bi-product of sugar cane fibre which is left after the juice is extracted. It is not only an agricultural waste; it is a 100% compostable and recycled material. By utilising sugarcane pulp as a raw material, we can preserve the forests.

In general, we need 5 tonnes of wood to produce 1 tonne of pulp. With sugarcane Bagasse, we only required 1.5 tonnes of sugarcane pulp to produce the same amount of pulp.

Sugarcane Bagasse is used in two form, moulded fibre products and paper.

Moulded fibre products

Moulded bagasse fibre products make up the basis of our range of takeaway containers, bowlsplates and trays. They have a natural look and feel like they are made paper.

Due to nature of the pulp, our products are strong and hold their shape quite well. It is sturdy and functional, with high resistance to heat, water oil and freezer.

Bagasse products can hold hot food, cold food, liquids, microwaveable and oven safe for up to 200.C for 20 minutes.

Since bagasse products are natural fibre products and it will biodegrade within 120 days in a commercial composting facility.

When bagasse products degrade, they provide natural ingredients back to the environment because they are made from natural, organic and renewable materials. Bagasse products are perfect alternatives to petroleum-based Styrofoam and plastic products which take thousands of years to degrade.

Paper and Board

Sugarcane bagasse is mixed with wood pulp to create bagasse paper and board.

Our serviettes made from bagasse paper which is a mix of 60% bagasse pulp.

Benefits and unique features of Bagasse products

It’s certified as genetically modified and free tree paper.

It can be home compostable and will biodegrade into natural materials if exposed to bacteria, moisture and heat.

Bagasse products are recyclable with other paper products as long as they have not absorbed any grease from food.

Plant Starch (PLA/CPLA)

Our products manufactured from plant-based bioplastic materials derived from renewable resources, such as corn starch and sugarcane, and they are 100% compostable. The plant-based materials are called PLA (Polylactic acid) and CPLA (Crystal Polylactic acid).

Polylactic Acid (PLA)

PLA (Polylactic acid ) is a unique material which derived from renewable plant products like corn and sugarcane which makes PLA products to be non-toxic. Products made from PLA are environmentally friendly, and it will biodegrade in a relatively short period when exposed other elements.

Traditional plastics products may take up to hundreds of years to degrade while PLA products can biodegrade within 6-24 months in a composting system.

PLA products are transparent and heat sensitive to 40˚C (104F). It is freezer safe, but not microwave safe.

The plastic products which made from PLA, such as Bioplastic Bagsdeli containers, clear containersclear cold drink cups and lids.

Crystallize Polylactic Acid (CPLA)

Our cutlery products and coffee lids made from modified PLA which is called CPLA. They are 100% renewable, biodegradable and compostable.

Products made from PLA can withstand high temperature. Therefore, we make our cutlery products such as a knife, spoon, fork, stirrer, and coffee lids etc. from CPLA.

The letter “C” stands for crystallised. For us to make the products more heat tolerance, PLA must go through a crystallisation process.

Products made from CPLA can increase tolerance up to 185 F (85C), and they can are safer to use for hot soup, coffee, and other hot beverages.

Why are CPLA & PLA plastics better?

They made from annually renewable plant sources. Growing plants are better for the environment than drilling for oil.

They are non-toxic when in contact with food.

PLA and CPLA are industrially compostable. They will biodegrade if exposed to bacteria, moisture and heat.

Optimum conditions will enable this to happen in 4 to 6 months. It is unlikely that these optimum conditions will found in landfills. In this case, it will take longer to break down if it does at all.

Wood Fibre

All our products are which made from wood fibres are sourced from a sustainably managed forest trees. Well managed forests provide clean air and water, maintain soil quality, preserve biodiversity and habitats, and sequester CO2, among many other ecosystems services.

Our product ranges which made from wood fibre includes Bio-board, PLA Lined Bio-board and Napkins.

Bio-board

Our product range has Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification, ensuring they manufactured from materials sourced from sustainably managed forests.

They can be heat sealed and have a high barrier to air and grease making it ideal for food packaging.

Recycled Paper

Our recycled paper products are a mix of first-generation factory waste paper (99.95%), and FDA approved alkaline paper sizing agent (0.05%). No fresh trees were used to make our, pizza boxes or cup carriers.

Greaseproof paper

Our greaseproof paper made from FSC certified wood pulp which sourced from sustainable forests and FDA certified.

The greaseproof properties obtained during the pulping process, and thus no chemical treatment or coatings used.

Why are sustainable wood pulp products a great choice?
  • Sustainable tree harvesting is important for maintaining healthy balanced ecosystems and providing homes for wildlife.
  • They are home compostable and will bio-degrade if exposed to bacteria, moisture and heat.
  • The paper products (greaseproof and recycled paper) are recyclable as long as they have not absorbed grease from food products.

Wood

All our products which made from wood sourced from sustainably managed forest trees which are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certify.

Our products made from Birchwood tree, which is the industry benchmarks for sustainable wood products.

Wooden Products

Our wooden products include a range of Bio-cutleries. They add a natural, stylish look and tactile experience to the food with which they served.

Why choose Bio Cutlery wooden utensils accessories?
  • The wood sourced from FSC certified sustainably forested areas.
  • Birchwood is a sustainably managed wood.
  • They are home compostable and will biodegrade if exposed to bacteria, moisture and heat.
